Updates to our teacher points system

DonorsChoose.org has introduced a new teacher points system in order to provide the best service and support possible to all our teachers. The core reason behind this change is that certain types of projects consistently require more time and money to fulfill than others. For example, it takes a DonorsChoose.org staff member just a few minutes to fulfill a project that requests only classroom materials and the total cost is less than $400. But it can take us 30 minutes of staff time to fulfill a project that requests a class trip. We of course want teachers using DonorsChoose.org to

The Launch of the Blogger Challenge – Woot!

So, it’s officially Day 3 of the Blogger Challenge, and this is DonorsChoose.org’s first post about it. What’s with that? Well I, for one, have been too preoccupied with 1. being über-excited as classroom projects are being funded left and right, and 2. reading the blogs of all the participants who have posted about the Blogger Challenge (and getting too frequently distracted by all the other great posts on said blogs….). So here, finally, is the official DonorsChoose.org Blogger Challenge launch post. The Blogger Challenge is an initiative to engage bloggers both big and small and their readers in a

A Day In The Life Of Becky Johnson…

….is eventful, to say the least. Becky was awarded the Koret Award for Innovation in Education for her leadership as DonorsChoose.org Executive Director of the Northwest Region. (The Koret Award is presented annually to a Teach For America alumnus in the Bay Area who best exemplifies innovative, inspired, results-driven, and effective educational entrepreneurship.) She’s also out there saving the world as an UberBabe. On the off chance you don’t know about this remarkable achievement, an UberBabe is “a woman who likes being totally feminine, but is also smart as hell, brave, a rule breaker, speaks her mind, finds her own

The highs and lows of so much great attention

Is it possible to have too much of a good thing? I’m not sure, but perhaps the answer is “Yes” when we’re talking about DonorsChoose.org web traffic and The Colbert Report! We worked hard to prepare our site infrastructure to handle the increased attention of the Blogger Challenge that started on October 1. The Blogger Challenge got off to a roaring start and we’ve been amazed and humbled throughout by the incredible support of the blogosphere, which has come together to provide so many students with access to the classroom resources they need to learn. For the first 2.5 weeks

Six-Week Campaign Results in $50,000 for Classrooms in Georgetown, SC

Whether she’s converting another friend or family member into a DonorsChoose.org supporter or telling a teacher, “DonorsChoose.org can help,” there isn’t much that the Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation Executive Director Geales Sands would not do to help improve K-12 public education in Georgetown County, SC. October 31st marked the end of the Georgetown County Challenge, a six-week campaign to fund $50,000 in requests from Georgetown teachers through DonorsChoose.org. The Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation matched every donation made to Georgetown projects during the challenge. By October 31st, we not only met our goal of channeling $50,000 in resources to Georgetown schools,

American Express Members Project Wrap-Up & Gift Certificates

Thank you to everyone who voted for DonorsChoose.org in the American Express Members Project! Since the week that the Members Project ended, we have been asking American Express to help us find a way to provide DonorsChoose.org gift certificates to all our voters and supporters. Unfortunately, American Express has notified us that they cannot help us distribute DonorsChoose.org gift certificates to Members Project voters due to privacy issues. We are extremely disappointed because we wanted our voters to be able to select the specific classroom projects to be funded with any award proceeds. However, we’re committed to providing a DonorsChoose.org
